On September 21st, Prof. Jens Wickert from the GFZ - German Research Center for Geosciences was invited by Prof. He Kaifei to give an online academic report for the teachers and students of our college. During the conference, Prof. Jens Wickert gave an academic report entitled “GNSS Remote Sensing at GFZ: Recent activities and Results”, and conducted online academic exchanges with teachers and students of our college. Besides, this academic exchange attracted more than 100 experts and graduate students in the field of GNSS remote sensing to participate online.

Firstly, Prof. Jens Wickert introduced the institutional overview of GFZ and its long history in the field of geoscience, as well as the research field of GFZ and GNSS remote sensing related projects in recent years. And then, he elaborated on the current research of GFZ in GNSS remote sensing field, mainly including: Ground based water vapor sounding, GNSS radio occultation technology, the potential of GNSS reflectometry, involving theoretical research, experimental process and research results display. Finally, he gave a brief introduction to some GNSS reflected signal receiving instruments.

After the report, Prof. George Liu from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Prof. Lan Du from the University of Information Engineering, Prof. Dongmei Song and Prof. Kaifei He from our University discussed with Professor Jens Wickert respectively. And Prof. Jens Wickert gave detailed answers, discussions and exchanges to the questions raised.

Prof. Jens Wickert is the responsible scientist of GFZ for the GNSS Remote Sensing Research and Topic Director of the GFZ research “Atmosphere in Global Change”. He holds a joint professorship of GFZ with Technische Universität Berlin. Prof. Wickert is involved in numerous research projects and satellite missions, predominantly in a leading position. Examples are GPS Radio Occultation with CHAMP, GRACE, TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X and GNSS Reflectometry with GEROS-ISS and PRETTY of the European Space Agency. He is also deputy head of the GFZ section “Space Geodetic Techniques”. Prof. Wickert is author/co-author of more than 260 ISI listed publications in GNSS Earth Observation and received several research awards, e.g., the PECORA- and Wernher-von-Braun-Award, as member of the CHAMP/GRACE teams.
