OnDecember 12,Liberal Arts EssenceLecture Series was held by the College of Arts. The lecture entitledTopicSelection, Conception and Publication about the Research of Linguistics and Foreign Language Educationwas presentedby Xiong Taoin the 142 room, Art and Science building. The keynote speaker, doctoralsupervisor Xiong Tao, is theViceDean of the Guangdong University ofForeignStudies. The lecture was presided over by professor Sun Daman, theViceDean of the College of Arts in UPC.Directors of departmentsGuo Yueqin, Peng Cuiqing, Chun Liu and Pan Lixiaas well as many teacherrepresentativesandsome undergraduates and graduates also participated in this activity.
At the beginning of the lecture, Sunbriefly introducedthe academic achievements of Professor Xiong and the significance of this lecture. In thisspeech, Professor Xiongillustratedhisacademic experiencefromthelinguisticsresearchinsix aspects: “personalpractice”, “reflection andquestion”, “cleartopic selection”, “academiccommunication”, “partnership” and “precise creation”.In response to the procrastination occurringin academic researchand in light ofhis own experience. Professor Xiongsuggestedthat we can constrain ourselves by setting time limitsand urge ourselves tocompletetasks with moreefficiency. He mentioned that in the process of academic research, we need to find a suitable partnerso that we can study academic issues more comprehensively and meticulously.Then, Professor Xiong describedhis research conclusions andsentimentswith four examplesinhisforeign language education research.Duringthe interactive session, Professor Xiong patiently answered the questions raised byaudiences. Finally, Professor Guosummarizedthe contents of this lecture andsharedherownimpressions.
After this lecture, teachers and students learned more about some new topics and new projectsaboutlinguistics and foreign language education research, andraisedawarenessin terms ofproblem,cooperationand innovation, whichmay behelpfulto better complete the writing of academic papers.
