College of Arts invited Prof.Fu Jingmin from School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Universitydelivering a lecture titledTopicSelectioninTranslation Studies andPaperPublicationon Dec. 1st, 2018.Sun Daman, Deputy dean of College of Arts chaired thelecture, which wasattended by Wang XinboandHan Shuqin, Deputy deansof College of Arts, Guo Yueqin,director of Postgraduate Foreign Language Teaching Department, Li Yanyun,director of English Language&Literature Department and Chun Liu,director of Teaching Affairs Office.
Firstly, Prof.Fu Jingminsaidwe mustputoriginalityon priority in topic selection, seek innovation based on previous researches and do not repeat others’academic achievements.
Secondly, Prof.Fu held that topic selectionmustembrace our own context of academic research.He suggested us paying attention to academic trends,continuouslyreading arelevantjournal, andfinally positioningour research orientation.
Thirdly,headvised us toclarifythecategoryof our topic selection,tounderstand theskoposof translation studies andto highlightfeasibility. And theory must be combined into practical application.
Fourthly,hetold us that thetopic selectionmust targetdissertationwriting, whichserves as thefinalindex to our academic achievements.Also, self-evaluation and assessment from other scholars are of equal importance in guiding our academic work.
