UPC participated in the 13th China-Korea University Presidents' Forum

On Dec 7, 2022, the 13th China-ROK University Presidents’ Forum was held with the support of the Chinese and ROK Ministries of Education.UPCand other twenty-one double first-class universities, including Tsinghua University, Fudan University and Wuhan University, andtheother twenty-six well-known universities in South Korea, including Yonsei University, Korea University and Sungkyunkwan University, participated in both online and offline ways. Vice President Caili Dai attended the forum and made a keynote speech.

Governor Kim Kwan-young of North Jeolla Province of the ROK, Vice Minister of Education Zhang Sang-yun of the ROK and Chinese Ambassador Xing Haiming attended the forum, affirmed the far-reaching significance of the forum held on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the ROK . He also expressed high hopes that the universities of the two countries will deepen the exchange mechanism, carry out practical cooperation and innovate the talent training model in the context of the fourth Industrial Revolution and the post-COVID-19 era.

The forum had two major themes: Promoting the Development of Higher Education in the post-epidemic Era, Cooperation Plan between Chinese and Korean universities and The Direction and topics of University Education Innovation in the Era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Leaders of 19 Chinese and Korean universities, including Renmin University of China, China University of Petroleum (East China), Hanyang University and Pusan National University, made special reports and discussions on the two themes.

Dai Caili,The vice president of UPC, delivered a keynote speech entitled Excellence Leads Integrated Innovation -- Construction and Practice of Core Competitiveness Training Mode for graduate students in the field of Energy. She introduced the overall situation of the university and the development needs of the Times, shared the experience of the reform measures from the four aspects of the ideal and belief power, knowledge integration ability, practice and innovation ability and cross-cultural competence of the postgraduates, and showed the good results achieved in the reform practice. She hoped that the universities of China and South Korea could continue to deepen the exchanges, jointly promote the high-quality development of postgraduate education, and make greater contribution to global scientific and technological innovation, regional economic and social development.

The China-South Korea University Presidents' Forum was initiated in 2007 by the Ministry of Education of the two countries and organized alternately by the universities of the two countries. Thirteen sessions have been successfully held so far. As an important platform for higher education exchanges between China and South Korea, the Forum has a positive impact on the reform and development of education in China and South Korea, and has become an important part of the cultural exchange mechanism between China and South Korea. The 14th China-South Korea University Presidents' Forum will be held at Lanzhou University in 2023.
