Recently, the periodical Explorer of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) released the award list of AAPG. Professor Hu Qinhong from the School of Geosciences was awarded the Robert R. Berg Outstanding Research Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the field of nano-petrophysics. Professor Hu Qinhong became the first Chinese scholar to receive this award.

Hu Qinhong, professor, national high-level talent, fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the Geological Society of America (GSA). He has worked in the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the National Laboratory of the US Department of Energy and universities of USA for more than 30 years. Now he is working in the State Key Laboratory of Deep Oil and Gas. As the leader of the research team nano-petrophysics and carbon neutral energy geology to carry out research on the micro pore structure and macro material transmission of porous media under the "dual carbon" background, fracture matrix interaction, efficient production and storage of fluids (water, oil, gas and geo-fluid) in low-permeability geological rocks. Served as the chief editor of Marine and Petroleum Geology, the chairman of the Energy Geology Branch of the Geological Society of America, professor Hu had been awarded the Outstanding Research Achievement Award by the University of Texas at Arlington, the first Top 10 Paper Award in Chinese Petroleum Science, and the Outstanding Contribution Award by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
The American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) is the largest and most influential organization of petroleum geologists in the world, founded in 1917 with the aim to foster scientific research, to advance the science of geology, to promote technology, and to inspire high professional conduct. Currently, it has nearly 40000 members from 129 countries and regions. The Robert R. Berger Outstanding Research Award is presented in recognizing a singular achievement in petroleum geoscience research. It is awarded to up to two individuals annually and has been recognized by a total of 30 people since its establishment in 2009.
